Program will include: ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, a ballet adaption of the beloved holiday poem by Major Henry Livingston Jr. (1748-1828), was originally created in 2003 by Fran Spector Atkins, artistic director and founder of SpectorDance, to bring the excitement and joy of the holiday season to SpectorDance audiences. Restaged by Amy Byington, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas is performed by SpectorDance students. The piece uses a variety of musical selections by Andy Williams, Tchaikovsky, Ibert, Debussy, Saint Sein, John Zorn, and Mozart and is a family favorite at SpectorDance.
Waltz of the Snowflakes is one of the most beloved sections of the holiday classic TheNutcracker. With music composed by Tchaikovsky and restaged by Amy Byington, dancers become a flurry of dancing snowflakes that scatters across the stage, reminding us about the wonders of a white Christmas.
Influx was originally choreographed in 2013 by Mads Erikson, from the New Ballet School in San Jose, as part of the SpectorDance Guest Artist Program. Influx is inspired by Beethoven’s Sonata for Piano No. 14 in C Sharp and embraces the idea of an influx of movement, challenging dancers to move with quickness, composure, awareness of tempo, precision in timing and breath, while focusing on technique. Restaged by Amy Byington, Influx features the SpectorDance Youth Company.
Peace Piece, along with the many traditions of celebrating with family and friends and giving gifts, the holiday season is also a time of reflection and resolution. Choreographed by Fran Spector Atkins and performed by Maggie Warner and Cindy Chen, SpectorDance Company dancers.
