grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, training with the Atlanta Ballet and Gwinnett Ballet Theater on full scholarship. Summers, he trained with Pacific Northwest Ballet and Boston Ballet, also on full scholarship. Dekkers began dancing professionally with Ballet Arizona, where he also served on the faculty. He next danced with ODC/Dance San Francisco, performing in works by Brenda Way and KT Nelson. Currently, Robert is dancing with Company C Contemporary Ballet, performing works by Lar Lubovich, Charles Moulton, Twyla Tharp, Val Caniparoli, Amy Seiwert and Charlie Anderson. He began choreographing at 16, and after his first work premiered, he was invited to RDA’s Craft of Choreography Conference on full scholarship. Since then, Dekkers has created over twenty works, presenting at the Tanzsommer Festival in Vienna, the New Choreographers on Point Showcase in New York, the World Ballet Competition in Orlando, and RDA’s annual gala performances, among other venues. From 2008 to 2009, Dekkers was resident choreographer of Novaballet, Arizona’s contemporary dance company, where he created several critically acclaimed works. In 2009, he founded San Francisco-based dance company Post:Ballet, offering audiences the chance to experience highly professional dance that expands the notion of what is possible through the use of classical dance as a means, not an end, to artistic expression.
