ARTS COUNCIL FOR MONTEREY COUNTY announces SpectorDance selected as a category finalist for Ovation TV and Americans for the Arts ‘Arts Programming Awards of Excellence’ in the performing Arts.

The Arts Council for Monterey County and SpectorDance were selected as finalist for the Ovation TV and America for the Arts Awards for Excellence in the Performing Arts for Common Ground, a dance media piece choreographed by Fran Spector Atkins with media integration by William Roden, about the poetry and politics of California agriculture today. The performance piece explores such timely issues as immigration, environmental responsibility, and the realities of competing in a world market. Common Ground was generously funded by the Arts Council for Monterey County, the Community Foundation for Monterey County, the James Irvine Foundation, and was presented by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the National Steinbeck Center, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Ovation TV, the only national television network devoted exclusively to art and creativity, in partnership with Americans for the Arts, is proud to announce the winners of Ovation TV Arts Programming Awards. “This program demonstrates the breadth and depth of how people in every community in America are putting their art into their life each and every day. We’re committed to that at Ovation TV and on OvationTV.com.” Robert L. Lynch, president and CEO of Americans for the Arts, added: “Americans for the Arts joins with Ovation TV in recognizing the outstanding and insightful programs created by local arts organizations. No matter the size of the community or the size of the organization, the local arts scene has a wealth of stories to tell and these programs showcase just that. We are proud to work with Ovation TV to increase awareness of the positive impact the arts have in all American communities.”
