About The Choreographer's Showcase
In 1997, Fran Spector Atkins initiated the Choreographer’s Showcase. The vision was to provide much needed opportunities for dancemakers to perform their works beyond their home cities and to provide Monterey County audiences opportunities to experience the creative vitality and variety in contemporary dance today. Now in its 20th season, the Choreographer’s Showcase is an established dance event in our local community and an audience favorite.
To date, SpectorDance has presented over 400 choreographers and over 1,000 performers visiting from all over the globe. Many of
these artists have taught classes in a wide variety of dance styles at SpectorDance, sharing their ideas and talents with
local dance students.
The Choreographer’s Showcase is a grassroots effort to celebrate dance, nurture creativity, and expand community.
As an outgrowth of the Choreographer’s Showcase, SpectorDance has launched the
Sadie Rose Residency Program.
